Submission Guidelines
Please allow 4-6 months for manuscripts to be reviewed. Cumberland House accepts manuscripts by U.S. mail ONLY. No electronic or telephone queries will be accepted.
Please assemble your presentation package using the following elements:
The Cover Letter
Please briefly describe the book and its market along with one paragraph introducing yourself and explaining why you have written your book.
The Proposal
Non-fiction – These proposals should include at least a synopsis, an outline, and enough of the manuscript to demonstrate the writing style.
Cookbooks – These proposals should include at least a synopsis, an outline or table of contents, an introduction that explains the subject of the book, and sample recipes and/or menus.
Cumberland House is no longer seeking to acquire fiction titles.
Additional Enclosures
It is helpful to include a resume and/or list of other titles authored.
Proposal Return Policy
Please include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage to return your materials should your project not be selected for publication. CUMBERLAND HOUSE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DESTROY ALL MATERIALS FOR WHICH NO PROVISIONS FOR RETURN ARE MADE UPON SUBMISSION.
Original Copies
Please do not submit original copies of any works. It is unlikely that proposals would be lost or damaged, but Cumberland House cannot be responsible for your original work. Please only send duplicate copies for consideration.
Electronic Submissions
No proposals or manuscripts presented in digital format via email or disk will be reviewed.
